about the technology

What is industrial 3D printing and additive manufacturing

Industrial 3D printing, also called additive manufacturing (AM), is a technology that has changed manufacturing. The technology is used to produce physical components directly from 3D drawings, without being dependent on molds or other special tools.

The technology has made enormous progress in recent years, and today metals, composites and polymers are printed with a quality as good as conventionally produced components. 3D printing and AM also have major advantages when it comes to minimizing emissions and reducing lead time, as the technology only uses the material that is actually needed, and production can take place locally.

Future Materials Norwegian Catapult

MIL works closely with the Future Materials catapult center in industrial 3D printing and metal powders. Through access to equipment, expertise and network we help companies find the right materials and solutions for the products to be developed. More information about the catapult center is available here.
